veganism and my experience
today i will be answering frequently asked questions about my experience as a vegan - keep in mind that i've only been vegan for 8 months now!
all these answers are from me personally.
Q: how long have you been vegan?
i have been vegan for 8 months now. i have been meat-free for almost 5 years though! (october will mark 5 years.)
Q: have you lost any weight from being vegan?
no, i have not. i lost all the weight i've lost from cutting out meat from being vegetarian. i lost about 10 pounds being vegetarian - keep in mind not every body is the same and will react different. i didn't expect to lose any weight from being vegan for some reason. i also didn't become vegetarian or vegan for weight purposes or health so please don't assume that!Q: what made you become vegan?
like i said, i was vegetarian before i became vegan last summer. i became vegan because i didn't want to support the dairy industry even though i barely ate dairy products. learning about how corrupt the dairy industry is was very sickening. cutting out dairy also has benefits - besides losing weight. i didn't lose weight from cutting out all animal products like i explained. cutting out dairy helped my acne and other things with my body! i am really glad i finally took the big step into becoming vegan. my moral views and thinking what's ethic of human beings involve it as well.
Q: what are your favorite things to eat as a vegan?
personally, i don't really eat meat alternatives. i don't usually like the taste of them and i don't like the idea of them for some reason. it really grosses me out haha! i love love love love tofu though, as well as rice and what not. i eat a ton of vegetables and fruits, as well as greens. i am a "junk food" vegan, but i don't really eat vegan "junk food" unless it's vegan desserts or treats. i really do love desserts hehe.. the daiya desserts are really good! also, if you have a mustard seed, trader joes, or other healthy markets, try out their vegan selections! my mustard seed has a ton of options for me, almost everything has a vegan alternative.
Q: how should i become vegan?
a lot of people ask me for advice on becoming vegan. although I don't support the dairy industry - i would say go vegetarian first. a couple months to a year should let your body adjust. try switching out milk and other dairy with alternatives while being vegetarian. almond milk, soy milk, soy yogurt, soy coffee creamer, tofutti ice cream, etc. there are so many dairy alternatives! earth balance is a really good brand and they also have vegan butter which is absolutely no different - just cruelty-free. after having your body adjust to everything, then i suggest to go vegan! try to find someone supportive of it too. i know it sucks if someone close to you can't be supportive. make sure you get a lot of protein from tofu, nuts, veggies, greens, etc. as well! there are plenty of things that have a ton more protein than meat. if you are looking for a good meat alternative, try gardenin! that is my favorite meat alternative brand when i buy them. yes - i buy all my vegan products. it's one of the reasons i got a job, but my parents buy me some things. they just usually don't because everyone else in my family eats meat. also, if anyone needs advice i'm always open to questions too! i really enjoy talking about vegetarianism/veganism, i think it's a great thing and also a big passion of mine.
